EAST-WEST BOYS BASKETBALL: Freedom’s Abee scores 11 as West dominates

Trio of Queens University signees spark 119-80 rout

GREENBORO – Jay’den Turner, one of three Queens University signees on the West roster, led a 119-80 rout of the East on Monday night in the East-West All-Star boys’ basketball game at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Turner — a 6-foot-5 guard from Southwest Guilford — made 11 of 17 field goals and scored 24 points as the top scorer for the West, which had six players reach double-figure scoring.

Freedom guard Fletcher Abee scored 11 points and the other West player from a Greater Hickory area conference – Sidney Dollar of East Lincoln – scored four points.

The West scored 30 points in the opening quarter and 31 in the second quarter to lead 61-28 by halftime.

The other players headed to Queens, Gavin Rains of Wheatmore and Zeke Littlejohn of Kings Mountain, added 16 and nine points, respectively, and Rains had a team-best 13 rebounds.

The West won the boards 66-37 and took 37 shots from 3-point range, making 11. Abee, who will play college basketball at The Citadel, made three of his seven 3-point attempts.

Dharyus Thomas, a 6-1 guard from Southwest Onslow who indicated in his East-West bio he plans to walk-on at Catawba Valley Community College, scored five points for the East.
