HUNTERSVILLE – Quarterback Chase Jones had a hand in five scores on Friday night as East Lincoln High pounded Lake Norman Charter 56-7, running its win streak to three games.
The Mustangs (3-2, 1-0 South Fork 2A) scored 50 of their points in the opening half – 21 in the first quarter and 29 in the second – as the Knights dropped to 2-3, 0-1.
After scoring 21 points in losses to Forestview and Ashbrook, the Mustangs have won three straight games by scoring 146 points.
Jones threw for four TDs and ran for another, completing 6-of-7 passes for 148 yards. Unofficially, he has thrown for 712 yards this season.
Cole Barber ran for a season-high 105 yards and scored a TD for East Lincoln, now 9-8 under second-year head coach David Lubowicz.
Lake Norman Charter was playing its 50th game under head coach Mark Steele (17-33, fifth year).
East Lincoln will play a conference game on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Lincolnton while Lake Norman Charter takes a three-game losing streak into its Friday (7:30 p.m.) league game at North Lincoln.
