HAYDEN DEAL (Class A Rome, Ga.)

Former Bandys High left-hander Hayden Deal did not pitch on Saturday when visiting West Virginia beat the Braves 8-2 before 2,589.

Deal gained a win in relief on Friday night when Rome nipped West Virginia 4-3 in 10 innings. He came on with two outs in the seventh inning, replacing starter Jasseel De La Cruz, and got a strikeout to end the inning.

Deal – who had last pitched a week ago — threw 3 1/3 innings, allowing two hits, one run (earned), walking one and striking out two. He faced 13 batters and threw strikes on 21 of his 34 pitches.

Deal is now 7-1 with an ERA of 2.45 after throwing 69 2/3 innings. He has hit one batter, intentionally walked one, walked 16 and struck out 75.

In his last 10 appearances, Deal is 3-1 with an ERA of 2.83 over 41 1/3 innins (nine walks, 36 strikeouts).

The Braves are 62-54 overall and 22-25 in the second-half SAL Southern Division standings and in fourth place at 4 1/2 games back of Lexington (Ky.)

Rome won a first-half title, securing a postseason berth.

HUNTER HARVEY (Class AA Bowie, Md.)

Former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey, a right-hander sidelined since early June by an injury, was scheduled to resume throwing last Monday.

Bowie’s game on Saturday night at Hartford (Conn.) was postponed by rain and reset as part of a Sunday doubleheader that begins at 5:05 p.m.

There’s been no official indication when Harvey might next pitch for the Baysox.

He continues to be listed on Bowie’s roster and noted as being on a seven-day disabled list.

He was in Florida working out last month while recovering from a shoulder injury sustained while trying to maneuver away from a foul ball into the dugout on a day he was not pitching.

When he twisted to avoid being struck by the ball, his right shoulder popped out of socket.

He was scratched from his 10th start (June 8).

Harvey is 1-2 with 32 1/3 innings pitched. He’s allowed 36 hits, 20 runs (all earned), walked eight and struck out 30. His ERA is 5.57.

Bowie finished last in the first-half West Division of the Eastern League, 8 ½ games back of division winner Akron (Ohio).

Bowie is 53-62 overall in the Eastern League.
