COLLEGE SOFTBALL: Duo of former Cougars selected All-Americans at Pfeiffer

MISENHEIMER — Two former Alexander Central High softball stars have gained All-American status.

Vada Blue Sherrill was a first-team pick by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and Mackenzie Pennell earned second-team status.

Sherrill, a senior, hit .482 this season with 15 home runs and 58 RBIs as she became the first NCAA player (all levels) to finish a career with more than 200 hits (251), 200 runs (255), 200 RBIs (200) and 200 stolen bases (201).

Pennell, a junior, hit .489 this season with 14 home runs and 67 RBIs.

Both former Alexander Central stars play at Pfeiffer for former Cougars head coach Monte Sherrill (Vada Blue is his daughter).

Sherrill is in his fourth season at Pfeiffer and his teams have gone 258-37. With his high school coaching record (753-60)added in, Sherrill has a carrer coaching mark of 1,011-987.
