HICKORY – Mars Hill University has signed Hickory High’s Victoria Eckard to play women’s lacrosse.

Eckard — who also played basketball and soccer for the Red Tornadoes — leaves for lacrosse camp with the Lions in late June, a press release by Hickory Public Schools said.

She will attend Mars Hill on both academic and athletic scholarships, the release said.

Eckard began playing lacrosse for Hickory as a junior. She played point guard on the varsity basketball team for four years and played soccer as a sophomore, giving up that sports because lacrosse was played in the same sports season.

An all-conference lacrosse player this year, Eckard plans on majoring in criminology. She hopes to eventually work with National Security Agency (NSA) or the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

“Mars Hill University is a beautiful campus with a close-knit community,” Eckard said in the news release. “It’s near Asheville and there’s always something going on.

“I’m looking forward to the future and the adventures and challenges it will bring!”
