HIGH SCHOOLS: Former Bandys star Turner named AD of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools

She also served stint as athletic director at Newton-Conover

CHARLOTTE – Erica Turner — who knows about tough jobs, challenges and excelling — is moving into a bigger role.

Turner, a former basketball star at Bandys High, is leaving her principal’s job at Rocky River High to become the new athletic director for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

The move was announced on Tuesday.

Turner is also a former athletic director at Newton-Conover High with a broad range of athletic administration experience.

She has a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in physical education from North Carolina A&T, a master’s in school administration from Gardner-Webb University and a specialist in education administration from UNC Greensboro.

One of the state’s top players during her playing career at Bandys, she signed with North Carolina and later transferred to N.C. A&T.

Turner has been principal at Rocky River since 2016 after tenures as principal at Statesville Middle from 2014-16, and she was an assistant principal at Statesville High from 2013-14.

After leaving Newton-Conover, she became director of athletics for the Almanace-Burlington school system. She was at Newton-Conover from 2009-12.
