HICKORY – Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) has signed its fifth recruit for next year’s class in women’s volleyball.

The Red Hawks announced they’ve landed Emma Clarke, a middle and right-side hitter from First Assembly Christian (14-5, 8-0 last season).

“Anna brings tremendous size and reach to our Red Hawks blocking game,” CVCC head coach Shannon Hudson said in a press release. “I’m looking forward to the continued development of her offense and appreciate her work ethic and drive to compete.”

Clarke plans to study early childhood education at CVCC.

CVCC also signed two West Stokes players this week, outside hitter Rachel Delcamp and libero Abigail Gordon.

Delcamp tallied a team-best 392 kills (4.5 per set) during her senior season at West Stokes. She also recorded 262 digs, 68 aces and 21 blocks last season.

A defensive stalwart, Gordon registered a team-high 317 digs last season and had 56 aces and 18 assists.

“Rachel and Abigail bring experience and competitiveness to our fall 2018 roster,” Hudson said in a press release. “They have a unique bond having played sports — soccer, volleyball, softball and basketball — together since they were seven.”

The Red Hawks’ other signees for the class of 2018 are Alexander Central’s Kelsea DeJarnette and Chesney Millsaps.
