VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) is off to a 3-0 start in Region X after beatng Bryant & Stratton College 56-52 on Sunday on the road.
CVCC overcame a 33-22 halftime deficit, powered by 10 second-half points from Zharia Brown and seven fourth-quarter points by Shaniya Lester.
“The Lady Red Hawks fought through adversity and played with heart,” CVCC head women’s basketball coach Tisha England said in a CVCC press release. “Words can not express how the ladies rallied together and pushed forward.”
Lester scored 15 points to lead the Red Hawks (8-2, 3-0), while Brown added 13 points.
Tiara Williams paced the Bobcats (7-4, 4-3) with 16 points, and Felise Keys added eight points for Bryant & Stratton.
CVCC’s next game is Tuesday as part of a doubleheader at the Tarlton Complex. The Red Hawks’ women play Cape Fear at 3 p.m., followed by the CVCC men against Wake Tech at 5 p.m.
