WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Lester leads Red Hawks’ fourth straight victory

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Shaniya Lester hit all eight of her free throws and scored 24 points to lead the Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) women to their fourth straight basketball victory.

CVCC beat Converse College’s junior varsity 76-53 on the road on Sunday, improving to 5-1 as Lester added four assists and three steals to her scoring.

The Red Hawks’ next game is Friday at 6 p.m., a home game against Clinton Junior College.

In the victory over Converse, Nikkyana McCaskill added 16 points for CVCC — going 6-for-6 on free throws — and sophomore forward Tanisha Wall recorded her first career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

CVCC pulled ahead 22-8 by the end of the first quarter and led 40-27 by halftime.

After leading by 13 points at the end of the third quarter (52-39), the Red Hawks exploded for 24 points in the final quarter.

Tori Henderson paced the Valkyries with 17 points.
