FAYETTEVILLE – An 84-65 victory over Fayetteville Tech on the road on Saturday made head coach Tisha England the career victory leader in women’s basketball at Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC).

The Red Hawks had four players in double figures as they delivered England’s 83rd career win, moving her past Tommy Edwards as the top winner in women’s basketball at CVCC.

England was an assistant coach at CVCC before replacing Edwards – the program’s first head coach — when he retired. She is in her fifth season guiding the Red Hawks.

“I could not be more proud of my girls for fighting through adversity and settling down to get the victory,” England said. “Tommy is a great person who built this program, and it’s my desire to continue the success in the classroom as well as on the court.”

Sophomore guard Shaniya Lester led the Red Hawks’ victory with 18 points. Tanisha Wall (16 points), Zharia Brown (15) and Nikkyana McCaskill (12) also reached double figures as CVCC improved to 11-3 overall and 6-0 in Region X.

The Red Hawks will try to add to England’s new record on Tuesday when they travel to Greensboro to face Guilford Tech (6 p.m.).
