WILMINGTON – In a battle of ranked National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) teams, No. 8 Cape Fear turned back visiting and No. 15 Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) 70-61 on Saturday in a key Region X women’s basketball game.
Cape Fear (23-5, 21-1), ahead 39-24 by halftime, forced the Red Hawks (21-5, 16-2) into 20 turnovers and snapped CVCC’s win streak at 10 games.
Tory Agrusa paced the Red Hawks with 19 points and Zharia Brown added 13 points.
A’Terria Quick scored a team-high 16 points for Cape Fear, while Maidson Ervin added 13 and Christina Caesar had 10 for the Sea Devils.
CVCC’s next game is Monday at home against Johnston Community College. The 5 p.m. game at Tarlton Complex has free admission.
