WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Agrusa scores career-best 21 as CVCC wins again

HICKORY – Tory Agrusa’s career-high 21 points led Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) to a 91-64 home basketball victory on Tuesday over Patrick Henry Community College.

Agrusa, a sophomore guard, made five of her nine 3-point attempts to lead the Red Hawks (17-4, 12-1 Region X) to a victory.

CVCC, ranked No. 17 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, struggled with its first-half shooting (32 percent) on Tuesday.

Patrick Henry (9-13, 7-11) led 35-33 at the half before CVCC rallied midway through the third quarter.

Trailing 37-36, CVCC had a 9-0 run — including six straight points from Tanisha Wall and a 3-pointer by Nikkyana McCaskill — to seize control for good.

The Red Hawks expanded their lead with a 14-0 run to start the fourth quarter en route to their sixth straight victory.

Wall finished with 17 points and nine rebounds, and Shaniya Lester added 21 points. Both players scored 15 points each in the second half.

CVCC’s next game is Thursday on the road, a 5 p.m. start at Louisburg College.
