RALEIGH – Eddie Volkerts scored 29 points on Wednesday night, leading Wake Tech to an 82-79 home victory over Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) in men’s basketball.
Wake Tech improved to 9-10 overall and 7-4 in Region X by winning and left the Red Hawks at 8-11, 3-7.
Tyrell Oglesby, a freshman from Inman, S.C., scored 20 points to lead CVCC. It was his sixth 20-point game of the season and the second time in three games he’s scored at least 20.
Isayah Johnson (12 points) and Caleb Bryson (11 points) also reached double figures for CVCC.
Down one point with less than 15 seconds to play, the Red Hawks had possession but Oglesby missed a go-ahead basket after being contested by several Eagle defenders.
CVCC’s next game is Saturday at Louisburg College at 3 p.m.
