WINTERVILLE —Catawba Valley Community College men’s basketball team had its three-game win streak snapped on Tuesday, falling 96-87 in a road game at Pitt Community College.

After Pitt led by five points at halftime, Brandon Faison erupted to score 18 of his team-high 26 points in the second half for the Bulldogs (9-4, 3-3 Region X).

Tyrell Oglesby and Marcus Talley led CVCC (6-7, 1-3) in the loss.

A freshman from Inman, S.C., Oglesby scored a team-high 26 points, making 10-of-11 free throws and finishing a point shy of his career high in scoring.

Eighteen of Talley’s career-high 22 points were scored on six made 3-pointers. It was the second-straight game Talley, a freshman from Charlotte, recorded a new career high in scoring.

The Red Hawks trailed 74-63 with fewer than seven minutes to go but used a 6-0 run — including back-to-back baskets by Matthew Garay — to cut the deficit to as few as five points.

Despite the late run, Pitt was able to make its free throws down the stretch and hold on.

CVCC plays again on Wednesday at 7 p.m., going to Greensboro to face Guilford Tech.
