HICKORY – The PDQ Classic basketball tournament is coming to Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) this weekend.
The four-team men’s field for games at the Tarlton Complex is CVCC, Central Carolina, Guilford Tech and Johnston Community College.
The tournament was formerly known as the CVCC Classic. It began in 2014-15.
“We’ve been happy to host this tournament the past three years, but are excited to now partner with local business PDQ (People Dedicated to Quality),” CVCC Athletic Director Nick Schroeder said in a CVCC sports information press release. “This unique partnership provides an opportunity to showcase four great community colleges across the state of North Carolina as well as promote PDQ.
“This tournament will be a springboard to promote competitive basketball and our relationship with PDQ as we go into the future.”
The Newton-Conover Youth Basketball Organization will perform an exhibition during halftime of CVCC’s game on Friday against Central Carolina Community College.
There will be also several giveaways at the tournament, including free cookie coupons to the first 100 fans attending Friday’s games and a surprise halftime giveaway on Saturday.
