COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: Red Hawks win twice, reach 30 victories this season

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Winning twice on Saturday, the Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) women’s volleyball team closed its regular season by reaching 30 wins.

The Red Hawks beat McHenry County 3-0 and Carl Sandburg College 3-0 in the Parkland College Halloween Challenge, improving to 30-9 under head coach Shannon Hudson.

CVCC — ranked No. 14 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll — next plays on Friday and Saturday in Kinston in the Region X/District O Tournament at Lenoir-Community College. Tournament pairings will be released early this week.

The winner in Kinston advances to the NJCAA Division II championship tournament on Nov. 14-17 in Charleston, W. Va.

CVCC 3, McHenry County 0

Behind Emma Clark’s nine kills and six blocks, the Red Hawks won in straight sets to open play on Saturday morning with a win of 25-23, 25-22, 25-15.

Sage Harrington and Rachel Delcamp eacxh added six kills apiece for CVCC, and Harrington also recorded four blocks (two solo, two assisted).

Defensively, Emily Williams tallied 17 digs and Macy Pope added 13 digs, 16 assists and two service aces. Emilee Webber also put up 15 assists and two aces.

CVCC 3, Carl Sandburg 0

Delcamp and Clark each recorded nine kills in a straight sets victory for the Red Hawks against the Chargers in a win of 25-14, 25-23, 25-20.

Clark added eight blocks, including a solo and seven assisted. Siena Naotala also tallied seven blocks (one solo, six assisted).

At the net, Webber helped paced CVCC with 17 assists.
