HICKORY – Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) has added another star volleyball player to its recruiting class for 2018.
The Red Hawks announced this week they’ll have Paige Sizemore from North Surry High join their roster.
Red Hawks volleyball coach Shannon Hudson is excited to add Sizemore to her team.
“Paige is a smart, athletic player with great high school and club experience,” Hudson said in a CVCC press release. “She is a solid right side hitter who sees the court well.
“Paige is also comfortable playing back row defense, which adds versatility and ball control to her skill set.”
Hudson discovered Sizemore three years ago through CVCC assistant coach Mark Wimberley, who was recruiting another player. Hudson immediately felt Sizemore would be a great addition for her program.
“I’m excited to add Paige to our roster and am looking forward to seeing how she fits into our offensive strategy for the fall,” Hudson said.
Sizemore, who is 5-foot-9, played both the outside hitter and opposite positions during her high school career. As a senior, she had 253 kills, 396 digs, 42 aces and 24 blocks, helping North Surry go 29-2 overall and reach the West 2A title match.
Sizemore was all-conference as a junior and senior. She was also named to the All-Western Piedmont Athletic 2A tournament team and was the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
A standout in the classroom as well, Sizemore is a member of the school’s National and Technical honor societies with a 4.1 grade point average. She plans to study arts at CVCC.
