COLLEGE SOFTBALL: CVCC signs former East Burke star Westbrooks

HICKORY – Brittany Westbrooks, a former softball star at East Burke High, is joining the new program at Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC).

“I’m very happy to be adding Brittany to our team here at Catawba Valley,” CVCC head softball coach Josh Bumgarner said in a press release. “She can play multiple positions, including pitching. She’s a player that will contribute in many ways.”

The former Cavs middle infielder and pitcher played in 63 career prep games, tallying a .220 career batting average in 191 at bats. She scored 22 runs, drove in 28 runs and recorded 42 hits.

On the mound, Westbrooks made 29 appearances, including 11 starts, with an 8-5 record and a 3.70 ERA. She struck out 49 and allowed 97 runs (only 63 were earned) in 119 1/3 innings pitched.

East Burke won 42 games overall and 27 league games with Westbrooks on the team.

She also played volleyball at East Burke, including three of her four years at the varsity level, and she also played travel softball for the CV Storm.

CVCC officially starts its softball program this fall and will be immediately eligible for championship contention in the spring of 2020.
