CVCC’s win streak of 4 snapped in road loss against Pitt

HICKORY — Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) will try to rebound after having a four-game basketball win streak snapped when its men face visiting Wake Tech on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Tarlton Complex.

Pitt Community College edged the Red Hawks 65-60 on Sunday in Winterville in Region X game, the second victory over CVCC in the last two weeks.

In the previous game in Hickory on Jan. 6, a game-winning shot was waved off by officials and Pitt Community College prevailed 109-108 in overtime.

In Sunday’s game on the road, Sal-Bey Young paced the Red Hawks (14-5, 6-4 Region X) with 10 points, while Zach De La Cruz, Isayah Johnson and Cole Johnson each scored eight points.

The Bulldogs (14-4, 11-0) led 29-27 at the half on Sunday, when De La Cruz scored all eight of his points in the first half for CVCC.

Pitt Community College got nine points by Rujuon Walters and eight by Reginald Clark in the second half en route to a win.

Clark led the Bulldogs with 21 points and 13 rebounds and Walters added 12 points.

Pitt Community College has nine straight wins and leads the Region X race by three games.
