HICKORY – Isayah Johnson returned to the Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) men’s lineup on Monday night, scoring 15 points to lead a Region X/District VI tournament win over Vance Granville, 95-75.
Playing in the Tarlton Complex, the Red Hawks (22-8) improved to 22-8 and they’ll next play on Thursday against Wake Tech, the tournament’s host team. Tipoff in Raleigh is set for 6:30 p.m.
Johnson had been sidelined for three games by a foot injury but contributed 11 of his 15 points in the second half on Monday.
Jordan Powell, Dezure Moulden and Brandon Reeves scored 13, 11 and 10 points, respectively, for CVCC.
Leading by two points early in the first half, CVCC used a 13-3 run over a three-minute span in the first half to gain a 42-27 lead by halftime.
Moulden scored all of his points in the second half as CVCC picked up is first postseason win since Feb. 28, 2016.
Justus Baldwin and Quavion Basyden led Vance Granville (5-24) with 25 and 21 points, respectively.

The Region 10 tournament winner gets the District XIV automatic bid to the national tournament.
Pitt Community College is the regular-season champion and has clinched the District XV title. If Pitt wins the tournament, the tournament runner-up will be District XV champion.
The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II tournament is scheduled March 19-23 in Danville, Ill., at the Mary Miller Center.
