COLLEGE BASEBALL: Red Hawks (23-13) home for doubleheader on Saturday

HICKORY – Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) has cancelled a Saturday morning game at L.P. Frans Stadium against Southeastern Community College and added a doubleheader on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Legion Fairgrounds.

The Red Hawks and Southeastern will play two games, the first at 4 p.m., at Henkel-Alley Field.

CVCC (23-13) is coming off a loss of 16-4 on Wednesday against Florence Darlington Tech in Lexington, S.C.

The Red Hawks gave up a program-record 22 hits in that loss.

Third baseman Grant Tilley led CVCC with two RBIs and outfielder Jackson Brown and Sabion Thomas each had two hits.

The Stingers (28-9) scored in all but one inning, scoring four runs in the first and third innings, three runs in the second inning, two runs in the fifth and sixth innings and one run in the fourth inning.

Of the 16 runs surrendered by CVCC pitchers, 10 were earned. The Red Hawks also committed five errors.

Second baseman Ryan Moore led Florence Darlington Tech with four hits in six at bats, including six RBIs and three runs scored.
