MAIDEN – Brantley Durham, Jarrett Isaac and Brantley Durham each hit a home run on Thursday night, pushing Maiden Post 240 past visiting Mint Hill 10-7 in American Legion baseball.

The Salamanders (7-2) had two key at-bats after they’d fallen behind 5-4 through two innings at Maiden High. They scored two runs in the third inning to lead 6-5 and broke a 6-all tie in the fourth inning with three runs for a 9-6 lead.

Maiden was playing its first game since June 6 and scored double-figure runs for the second time this season to continue winning.

The Salamanders next face Huntersville Post 321 on Friday at 7 p.m. at Hopewell High, part of a stretch of seven games in as many nights (Friday’s game was originally set to be played at North Mecklenburg High).

Maiden is at home on Saturday at 7 p.m., facing the Lincoln County Cardinals, and again on Sunday at 7 p.m. against Henderson County.

On Thursday night, the Salamanders had nine hits with Tibbs, Isaac and Mac Beam leading the way with two each. Tibbs drove in three runs and Issac and Beam had an RBI each. Durham drove in two runs and Bryson Ledford also had an RBI.

Josh Frye pitched two innings in relief of Post 240 starter Tyler Laws to gain a win. Frye gave up one hit, one run (unearned), walked one and struck out one while throwing 21 of his 35 pitches to 10 batters for strikes. Laws went four innings, giving up six hits, six runs (five earned), with two walks and five strikeouts.

Maiden jumped to a 4-0 lead in the home half of the first inning before Mint Hill went up 5-4 with a five-run second inning.

The Salamanders had scored 10 or more runs only once in their first eight games, beating Shelby 13-0 in five innings on June 2.
