Caldwell County takes 2-0 lead in series against Mint Hill

NEWTON – Game 2 of Hickory Post 48’s first-round American Legion baseball playoff series was rained out on Sunday.
The Gaston Braves (13-3, East No. 2 seed) will be back at Henkel-Alley Field at the Legion Fairgrounds on Monday at 7 p.m., with the third game in the Area IV bracket now set for Tuesday (7 p.m.) at South Point High.
Gaston won the first series game 11-4 on Saturday night in Belmont, extending Post 48’s losing streak to four games.
In other series Game 2’s on Sunday:
- Burke County nipped Gastonia 6-5 in Morganton, evening their series at a game each.
- Caldwell County nipped Mint Hill 10-9 to complete Game 1’s suspension and Post 29 won the regularly scheduled game 4-3 for a 2-0 lead in the series.
- Matthews, up 1-0 in the series, fell 4-3 in eight innings to Henderson County on the road.
