Next home game for Post 48 is Friday against Cleveland County

NEWTON – Scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a tie, Hickory Pot 48 nipped rival Caldwell County 4-2 on Monday night in American Legion baseball.
Hickory (5-7, 2-6 Area IV led 2-1 until Caldwell County scored in the top of the sixth inning for a 2-all tie at Henkel-Alley Field.
Post 48 outhit Caldwell County 11-3, getting two each by Hayden Tabor (Fred T. Foard), Zane Wilson (Newton-Conover) and Lucas Dentel (Fred T. Foard). Dentel drove in two runs and Josh Barkley (St. Stephens) and Luke Davis (Hickory) also had one RBI each.
Barkley threw six innings for Hickory, which has won three of its last four games, and allowed three hits, two runs (none earned) with four walks and four strikeouts. He threw 92 pitches, 49 for strikes.
Isaiah McDowell (Hickory) pitched the seventh inning for Post 48, allowing no hits, no runs, walking two and striking out one.
Caldwell County got singles by Cooper Critcher and Isaiah Kirby and a double by C.J. Cook.
Starter Diylan Dula went six innings for Caldwell County, giving up 10 hits, four runs (all earned) with no walks and one strikeout.
Post 48 improved to 4-3 at home and plays Tuesday night (7 p.m.) at Cherryville and Friday night (7 p.m.) against Cleveland County (7 p.m.) at the Fairgrounds.
