Hickory Post 48 wiped out a deficit on Wednesday night, scoring six runs in the top of the sixth inning en route to a 9-5 victory over Gastonia in American Legion baseball.
Post 48 (2-3) trailed 5-3 after Gastonia scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Hickory finished with 14 hits at Sims Park and held Gastonia to seven.
Hayden Tabor (Fred T. Foard) led Post 48 with four hits and an RBI, Henry Stewart (Hickory) had two hits and Ryan Zynch (Fred T. Foard) drove in three runs.
Stewart pitched 3 2/3 innings and Elijah Miller (Maiden) went the final 3 1/3 for Post 48.
Hickory has another non-region game on Thursday, facing Mooresville at 7 p.m. at the Legion Fairgrounds in Newton. Post 48 is also at home on Friday and battles Cherryville.
Post 48 head coach Allen Sigmon is working with a roster of players from eight schools that were a combined 94-88 this season (East Burke, Fred T. Foard, Hickory, Hickory Christian Academy, Lincolnton, Maiden, Newton-Conover and St. Stephens). Of that group, Fred T. Foard, Hickory, Lincolnton and St. Stephens reached the state playoffs.
Burke County 7, Hickory 1 (Tuesday)
Brayson Buff (Patton) had two hits and drove in a run and limited Hickory to one run over 5 1/3 innings, leading Burke County to a victory at Shuey Field in Morganton.
Burke County had 10 hits, including two by Braxton Hensley (Patton) and Colin Eckard (East Burke).
Burke County led 2-0 after one inning and 5-0 through five innings.
Post 48 had five hits, two by Ethan Hall (Newton-Conover) and two by Isaiah McDowell (Hickory).
Buff allowed five hits and struck out three and Chapel Morrison (McDowell, Mars Hill University) walked one and struck out while getting the final five outs.
Aiden Landerum (Fred T. Foard) worked 4 2/3 innings for Hickory, allowing seven hits, five runs (four earned) with three walks and four strikeouts.
Hickory left seven baserunners stranded and Burke County left 11.
