NEWTON — Hickory Post 48 was rained out for the third straight night on Wednesday in Area IV American Legion baseball.

Hickory was scheduled to play Rutherford County, the Area IV East Division leader, at the Legion Fairgrounds on Wednesday night after rain outs on Monday at home with Taylorsville and Tuesday at Rutherford County.

Post 48 and Rutherford County will now play a doubleheader at McNair Field on Thursday with a 5 p.m. start.

On Friday, Hickory plays Waverly, Ohio at 3 p.m. at the Legion Fairgrounds, then makes up its rained out game with Taylorsville at 7 p.m.

Hickory plays Burke County on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Shuey Field in Morganton and finishes the week with a home game against Burke County on Sunday at 7 p.m.

The Area IV regular season is scheduled to end July 5, with the West Division teams completing a 16-game schedule and the East Division playing an 18-game schedule.

The Area IV playoffs begin on July 7.
