NEWTON – Hickory Post 48 — led by three-hit games by Carrington Chapman — swept visiting Burnsville 9-1 and 11-0 on Saturday afternoon in American Legion baseball.
Hickory, playing at the Legion Fairgrounds’ Henkel-Alley Field, evened its record at 7-7 and has a home game against Mocksville on Sunday at 7 p.m.

Chapman, who plays high school baseball for Bunker Hill, had three hits in the first game and Luke Durham (Woodberry) and Pierson Hanvey (Hickory) each had two as Post 48 collected 13 hits.
Eli Moser, also a Bunker Hill player, went five innings and gave up one run (earned) to get a win for Hickory.
Hickory 11, Burnsville 0, 5 inn.
In the second game, Post 48 had a nine-run third inning en route to victory. It was the fourth time Hickory has scored nine or more runs this season.
Chapman had three hits and Bryce Stober and Brody Scarborough, both Hickory products, had two hits and three runs and two hits and two RBIs, respectively.
Riley Edwards, who pitched for St. Stephens High, got a win after pitching four innings and allowing no runs.

After Sunday’s home game against Mocksville, Post 48 has games on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and next Sunday.
Napoleon, Ohio visits Post 48 on Monday for a 7 p.m. game, Caldwell County plays Post 48 at the Legion Fairgrounds on Wednesday at 7 p.m., and Maiden is at Post 48 on Friday at 7 p.m. Next Sunday’s game Hickory plays a doubleheader (4 p.m.) against Asheville at Asheville Roberson High.
