GRANITE FALLS – Caldwell County Post 29 won for the third time in four games on Wednesday night, edging visiting Hickory 9-7 at M.S. Deal Stadium to finish third in Area IV’s West Division of American Legion baseball.

No game details were available.

Caldwell County finished 10-6 in the West Division – behind Rutherford County and Cherryville – and improved to 12-7 overall.

Post 29 will be the West No. 3 seed when pairings are determined at a Friday night meeting. The postseason begins on Saturday.

Post 48 has lost two straight games and eight of its last nine.

Hickory fell to 7-9 in the West Division and 11-17 overall and is a half-game back of Asheville (7-8) heading into Thursday night’s close of the regular season.

Asheville plays at Cherryville on Thursday and can grab the West No. 4 seed by winning.

If Cherryville wins and Burke County beats Taylorsville on Thursday night, there will be a three-way tie for fourth place between Hickory, Asheville and Burke County.
