Zach Jarrett — who starred in high school at Hickory and in college at Charlotte – is an outfielder for the Shorebirds.

He went 2-for-3, doubled in a run, walked once and scored a run on Wednesday when Delmarva beat visiting Hagerstown (Md.) 3-0 before 7,354.

Jarrett’s run-scoring double came in the fourth inning.

In 77 games this season, Jarrett’s batting .308 with 18 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs and 46 RBIs. He’s hitting .308 with no home runs and eight RBIs in his last 10 games.

Jarrett is one of 10 SAL hitters at .300 or above, and he’s tied for fourth with two other players. He’s also one of 17 players with 10 or more home runs in the league (Seuly Matias of Lexington, Ky., leads with 24 and Chad Spanberger of Asheville has 21).

Jarrett’s on-base percentage of .378 is sixth in the SAL and only one player, Riley Delgado (96) had more hits than Jarrett (91).

Delmarva improved to 43-38 overall and 8-6 in the second half in the SAL Northern Division standings.

DEAL

HAYDEN DEAL (Class A Rome, Ga.)

Former Bandys High star Hayden Deal, a left-hander, pitched in relief on Wednesday when Asheville defeated visiting Rome 8-6 before 4,271.

Deal’s appearance was his 17th of the season and his 15th in a relief role (he had started in his two most recent appearances).

He pitched 1 2/3 innings to finish up Wednesday’s game, allowing one hit and striking out one. He threw strikes on 12 of his 17 pitches and faced five batters.

Deal is 4-1 with an ERA of 2.25 with two saves and has pitched 44 innings. He has hit three batters, walked nine and issued one intentional walk while striking out 51.

In his last 10 outings, the former Presbyterian star is 2-1 with an ERA of 2.64 with 30 2/3 innings pitched, seven walks and 30 strikeouts.

The Braves are 46-37 overall and 6-8 in the second-half SAL Southern Division standings. They won the first half, securing a postseason berth.

HARVEY

HUNTER HARVEY

(Class AA Bowie, Md.)

Former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury sustained while trying to maneuver away from a foul ball into the dugout on a day he was not pitching.

He played catch on Tuesday for the first time since the injury, the Baltimore Sun reported, but no timetable has been announced re when he might pitch again.

Harvey was scratched from his 10th start (June 8) and remains listed as “active” on the Bowie roster. He is on the Baltimore Orioles’ 40-man roster, so if he were to go on the 60-day disabled list he would be considered on the major league roster during that time.

Harvey is 1-2 with 32 1/3 innings pitched. He’s allowed 36 hits, 20 runs (all earned), walked eight and struck out 30. His ERA is 5.57.

Bowie finished last in the first-half West Division of the Eastern League, 8 ½ games back of division winner Akron (Ohio).

On Wednesday, Bowie nipped visiting Harrisburg (Pa.) 7-6 in 10 innings, improving to 37-47 overall.
