NEWTON – After falling 8-0 on the road to Burke County in American Legion Area IV baseball, Hickory Post 48 finished the regular season at 6-14 overall and at 3-11 in the West Division.
The divisional record left Hickory in seventh place, meaning Post 48 will draw the East No. 2 team (Gaston Braves or Union County) in the first round of the playoffs that begin on Tuesday.
Area IV officials will meet Monday night in Cherryville to finalize the playoff pairings.
Burke County finished tied for fourth at 7-7 with Caldwell County in Area IV West.
The West division standings going into Sunday’s games, Cherryville at Asheville: 1. Cherryville 11-2; 2. Asheville 10-3; 3. Rutherford County 9-5; 4. Burke County, Caldwell County 7-7; 6. Henderson County 6-8; 7. Hickory 3-11; 8. Burnsville 2-12.
