ST. LOUIS — Alec Burleson collected his second major league hit on Wednesday night as the St. Louis Cardinals edged visiting Milwaukee 4-1.
Burleson, a high school star at East Lincoln and college star at East Carolina, went 1-for-3 while batting eighth in the Cardinals’ batting order — one spot behind Albert Pujols.
Pujols was the designated hitter for St. Louis on Wednesday night as he continues to chase 700 career home runs (he has 697).
Burleson started in right field. In additional to his single, he grounded into a double play during the game.
He has played in four games since being called up from Triple A Memphis (Tenn.) last week and has walked once with no strikeouts in 12 big-league at-bats.
The Cardinals begin a four-game series at Cincinnati on Thursday night against the Reds.
