3A — Kings Mountain, South Iredell
2A– Newton-Conover

Newton-Conover High’s girls’ soccer team will try to advance to the fourth round on Wednesday night.

The fourth-seeded Red Devils (16-2-1), riding a 13-match win streak, are scheduled to face No. 5 Forbush (19-5-1) at 7 p.m. in the West 2A bracket.

A victory would send Newton-Conover to a fourth-round match that must be completed by Saturday, against No. 7 Lake Norman Charter (17-5-0) or top-seeded Hendersonville (19-1-0). The Red Devils would be at home against Lake Norman Charter but travel to play Hendersonville.

3A: Two teams remain alive, Kings Mountain from the South Mountain Athletic 2A-3A and South Iredell from the North Piedmont 3A-4A.

No. 5 Kings Mountain (21-2-0) is on the road on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. to face No. 4 Cox Mill (21-2-0), and No. 1 South Iredell (20-0-0) is at home to play No. 11 Hickory Ridge (17-4-2) at 7 p.m.

A win by Kings Mountain would give the Mountaineers a fourth-round home match (must be played by Saturday) versus No. 15 Marvin Ridge (15-5-2) or No. 8 Waynesville Tuscola (15-7-0).

South Iredell would be at home in the next round, facing No. 6 Weddington (19-2-0) or No. 3 Asheville Reynolds (21-1-2).

4A: Watauga (13-2-3) of the Northwestern 3A-4A is on the road Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match at top-seeded West Forsyth (22-1-1).

If the Pioneers win, they’ll move opposite No. 9 Asheville Roberson (16-5-1) or No. 4 Myers Park (16-1-2) for the fourth round. They would face Roberson in Boone but go to Charlotte to play Myers Park.
