HICKORY – Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute (CCC&TI) halted an unbeaten start by the Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) men on Wednesday night with a 68-63 men’s basketball win at the Tarlton Complex.

CCC&TI broke a 34-all tie at the half and won behind their free-throw shooting, going 22 of 39 while CVCC went 14 of 39, including seven of 20 in the second half, at the free-throw line.

The loss dropped CVCC to 3-1. The Red Hawks are now idle until Nov. 16 when they play at Lees-McRae (7 p.m.)

Isayah Johnson had 16 first-half points to pace CVCC on Wednesday night. He finished with a season-high 22 points and added 15 rebounds. Victor Tshiona and Brandon Reeves each added 10 points for the Red Hawks.

Josue Kamba paced the Cobras with 16 points, and Jonathan Warren and Anderson Keller added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The game featured 58 fouls, 31 called on CCC&TI.
