MAIDEN – Maiden High’s final regular season varsity football game of the season — scheduled for Monday night at Maiden against Lincolnton — has been postponed by wet field conditions.
Maiden athletic officials have announced via email the South Fork 2A game between the Wolves (2-8, 1-5) and Blue Devils (7-3, 3-3) will now be played on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Maiden is in fourth place behind Bandys, North Lincoln and West Lincoln and must win to hold fourth place. If Lincolnton wins, the winner of Monday night’s Newton-Conover at East Lincoln game would tie Maiden for fourth place.
The state football playoffs, originally scheduled to begin on Friday night, have been delayed one week after severe weather forced the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) to extend the regular season by one week.
The NCHSAA will develop pairings for the playoffs on Saturday. That process will include using MaxPreps rankings that use an unknown formula. At the instruction of the NCHSAA, that formula no longer involves things like point differentials.
