CATAWBA – Bandys High has credited senior running back Ethan Howard with 205 rushing yards on 28 carries against North Lincoln, leaving him 65 yards shy of becoming the school’s all-time leading rusher.

Howard has 571 career carries for 4,000 yards and trails only Chris Spade, who gained 4,064 yards while playing two varsity seasons at Bandys (2003, 2004).

Chris Spade (22), who played at Bandys in 2003 and 2004, currently holds the school record for career rushing yardage.

On Saturday night, Howard scored three touchdowns — the last on a 6-yard run with three minutes, 35 seconds to play — as the visiting Trojans beat the Knights 30-29 to wrap up a South Fork 2A championship.

Howard’s official rushing yardage as a senior is compiled by the Bandys coaching staff by reviewing game film. His rushing totals for his first three varsity seasons were compiled by HobbsDailyReport.com and confirmed by the Bandys athletic department as the school’s official statistics for the 2015, 2016 and 2017 seasons.

Bandys (10-1, 7-0) will learn its seed for the state playoffs when the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) compiles them on Saturday.

Because of hurricane weather earlier this year, the NCHSAA added an extra week to the regular season. That delayed the start of postseason games from Friday to Nov. 16.
