In the previous 18 high school football seasons, only one player led Catawba County in passing yardage in three consecutive seasons – Bandys High quarterback Zach Elliott in 2001-2003.
The county leader in seven of those seasons played for Bandys, Maiden had the leader in six seasons, Hickory had the top passer in three seasons and Newton-Conover had the most prolific passer in two seasons.
Three quarterbacks other than Elliott led the county in passing in back-to-back seasons – Kyle Houser of Bandys, Kyle Johnson of Hickory and Cameron Stanley of Newton-Conover.
The top county passer for 10 consecutive seasons, starting in 2000, played for Bandys or Maiden and in a stretch of 14 seasons – also starting in 2000 – the leading passer was from Bandys or Maiden in 12 of those years.
The top single-season passing yardage in those 18 seasons is 2,887 by Jake McRee of 2013, and he threw the most touchdown passes in a season in that year as well (40).
