BELMONT – Maiden Post 240 split an American Legion baseball doubleheader on Wednesday night at Belmont Abbey College, defeating Belmont 8-2 in the first game and falling 9-2 in the nightcap.
Maiden’s record is 6-2 as it heads into a stretch in which it will be idle until June 14.
The Salamanders’ other loss this season was 9-6 at home to Gastonia on Monday night.
Head coach David Williams’ Salamanders are off to the best start in Maiden Post 240 history.
The next game for Post 240 is against Mint Hill on June 14 at Maiden High (7 p.m.). The Salamanders will follow that game with three straight – Huntersville at North Mecklenburg High on June 15 at 7 p.m., Lincoln County in Maiden on June 16 (7 p.m.), and home versus Henderson County at 7 p.m. on June 17.
