HAYDEN DEAL (Class A Rome, Ga.)

DEAL

Former Bandys High star Hayden Deal is a left-handed relief pitcher for the Braves (35-23), who won 7-1 at Asheville on Wednesday night with Deal picking up his second save of the season.

Before a crowd of 2,270, Deal came on in relief of Rome starter Huascar Ynoa and pitched the seventh through ninth inning.

Deal allowed two hits, one run (earned), threw two wild pitches, walked none and struck out three. He faced 11 batters and threw strikes on 26 of his 35 pitches.

Asheville scored a run in the seventh inning via a wild pitch by Deal, but he closed the Tourists down after that by getting five ground ball outs and a strikeout in 1-2-3 innings in the eighth and ninth inning.

In 12 appearances this season, Deal is 4-0 with an ERA of 1.98 with two saves. He’s thrown 27 1/3 innings, allowed seven runs (six earned), walked seven, hit two batters, issued one intentional walk, and struck out 38.

Deal is 4-0 with a 1.61 ERA in his last 10 outings with two saves, 11 innings pitched, two earned runs allowed, six walks and 32 strikeouts.

HUNTER HARVEY (Class AA Bowie, Md.)

Portland (Ore.) downed visiting Bowie won 5-1 on Wednesday night but former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey did not pitch in a game attended by 3,871.

Harvey’s last appearance was last Friday when he made his ninth start of the season. He went two innings, gave up five hits and six runs (all earned), walked one and struck out none with Trenton (N.J.) winning 7-2.

Harvey faced 12 batters and threw strikes on 36 of his 59 pitches but gave up a double, triple and two home runs.

He is 1-2 this season with 32 1/3 innings pitched. He’s allowed 36 hits, 20 (all earned), walked eight and struck out 30. His ERA is 5.57.

Harvey is listed as Bowie’s probable starter for a Friday game at New Hampshire (6:35 p.m.).

ZACH JARRETT (Class A Delmarva, Md.)

Zach Jarrett, who starred in high school at Hickory and in college at Charlotte, plays outfield for the Shorebirds (30-26), who were beaten 4-1 by visiting Greensboro on Wednesday night before 2,748.

Named a South Atlantic League (SAL) All-Star on Tuesday, Jarrett went 1-for-4 against the Grasshoppers. He batted third in the lineup and played centerfield.

He’s played in 53 games and is batting .281 with 10 home runs 29 RBIs. In his last 10 games, he’s hitting .270 with a home run and six RBIs.

Jarrett is 21st in South Atlantic League (SAL) hitting, and 13 hitters in the league are hitting .300 or better.

With 10 home runs, Jarrett is fifth in the SAL. Seuly Matias of Lexington (Ky.) leads the SAL with 18 home runs.
