MOCKSVILLE – Mocksville Post 54 shut out visiting Hickory 9-0 on Friday night in American Legion baseball, dropping Post 48’s record to 1-4.
Mocksville won at Rich Park, collecting the first shutout of Post 48 this season.
Jake Speaks took the loss for Hickory after pitching four innings. Bryce Stober, Eli Moser and Luke Durham each had hits for Post 48.
Hickory started 1-2 — losing 8-5 in nine innings at home to Cherryville and splitting a doubleheader with Randolph County (lost 8-3, won 10-2) – before falling 9-4 at Maiden on Thursday night.
Post 48 plays its first Area IV West game on Saturday at 4 p.m., facing Taylorsville at Alexander Central High.
Hickory has a home doubleheader at Henkel-Alley Field at the Legion Fairgrounds on Sunday, playing Henderson County at 4 p.m.
Post 48 is at Cherryville on Monday night (7 p.m.), plays the Gaston Braves on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at South Point High in Belmont, and plays host to a Prep Baseball Report (PBR) event at Henkel-Alley on June 11.
