DEAL

HAYDEN DEAL (Class A Rome, Ga.)

Former Bandys High star Hayden Deal, a left-handed relief pitcher for the Braves (32-22), had a night to remember on Friday in a 7-1 home victory over Columbia, S.C.

Deal came on in relief of Mike Soroka — with Rome on a rehab assignment from the Atlanta Braves – in the fourth inning with two outs and threw three innings to earn a victory.

He gave up two hits, no runs, walked two and struck out three before a crowd of 2,092.

Deal threw exactly half of his 62 pitches for strikes and faced 15 batters.

He is 4-0 this season with an ERA of 1.85, pitching 24 1/3 innings, giving up 18 hits, six runs (five earned), walking seven, hitting two batters and striking out 35.

Deal’s wins have all come in his last 10 games, when his ERA is 1.27 and he’s walked six and struck out 32 over his last 21 1/3 innings.

He’s now pitched 55 innings in pro baseball and struck out 62.

HARVEY

HUNTER HARVEY (Class AA Bowie, Md.)

Hunter Harvey — a former Bandys High star who was called up to the Baltimore Orioles for two games earlier in the season – had a tough night on Friday in his ninth start of the season.

Harvey went two innings, gave up five hits and six runs (all earned), walked one and struck out none in a game visiting Trenton (N.J.) won 7-2 before 2,566.

He faced 12 batters and threw strikes on 36 of his 59 pitches but gave up a double, triple and two home runs as Bowie dipped to 24-28.

Harvey is 1-2 this season with 32 1/3 innings pitched. He’s allowed 36 hits, 20 (all earned), walked eight and struck out 30. His ERA is 5.57.

He has been pitching every fifth game for the Baysox. If he does that this week, his next start would come Thursday at 11 a.m. (EST) against the Portland (Ore.) Sea Dogs in Portland.

JARRETT

ZACH JARRETT (Class A Delmarva, Md.)

Zach Jarrett, who starred in high school at Hickory and in college at Charlotte, plays outfield for the Shorebirds (29-23).

He started Friday night’s game at Charleston (S.C.) in centerfield, batted third in the lineup, and went 2-for-4 and struck out twice in a 3-2 loss.

Jarrett has played in 49 games this season, batting .283, and has 10 home runs 26 RBIs. In his last 10 games, he’s hitting .205 with two home runs and seven RBIs.

He is one of five players in the South Atlantic League (SAL) with 10 or more home runs – Seuly Matias of Lexington (Ky.) has 15, Casey Golden of Asheville has 12 and Jarrett, Seamus Curran of Delmarva and Chad Spanberger of Asheville have 10 each.
