Zach Jarrett hit a solo home run in the fourth inning on Friday night but visiting Durham still outlasted Norfolk (Va.) 4-3 in a Triple-A game.
Jarrett, batting sixth in the Tides order, went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs, improving his batting average to .295.
His home run, the fourth the season, came with two outs and no one on base, and it was also the 31st of his pro baseball career.
The series continues through the weekend with Saturday’s game at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday’s at 1:05 p.m.
Jarrett and the Tides will play a six-game series in Charlotte, beginning on June 29 and continuing through July 4.
