Zach Jarrett earned a promotion on Wednesday, moving from Double-A to Triple-A overnight.
Jarrett, a former star at Hickory High and in college at Charlotte, left the Bowie (Md.) Baysox and is now on the roster of the Baltimore Orioles’ Triple-A team in Norfolk (Va.).
As of the second inning on Wednesday night, Jarrett was not in the Tides lineup against Jacksonville (Fla.). His profile on milb.com says his next game is Thursday when Norfolk plays Jacksonville at Norfolk at 12:05 p.m.
Norfolk, 3-10 entering Wednesday’s game and in last place in the plays a six-game series at Durham on June 1-6 and a four-game series at the Charlotte Knights on July 1-4.
Jarrett had two hits on Tuesday night to push his batting average to .302, but Bowie fell 6-5 at Richmond (Va.).
He had steadily moved up in the Bowie batting order, hitting in the No. 5 spot on Tuesday night after hitting anywhere from sixth to ninth in the batting order last week.
Jarrett is the son of NASCAR champion driver Dale Jarrett and in his fourth on-field pro season (there were no minor league games in 2020).
