MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: Jarrett scores a run, drives in 1 in loss at Gwinnett

Gwinnett (Ga.) hammered visiting Norfolk (Va.) 17-8 on Friday night in Triple- A baseball despite Zach Jarrett scoring a run and driving in one for the Tides.

Jarrett, a former Hickory High  and Charlotte star, moved to fifth in the Norfolk batting average (he had been batting No. 2) and went 1-for-3 to push his batting average to .251.

He had seven home runs and 23 RBIs this season.

The series continues Saturday and Sunday at Gwinnett.

The Tides are 25-41 and in seventh place in the Triple-A East Southeast Division, 21 games back of division-leading Durham.

Jarrett has been in Triple-A since a promotion from Double-A Bowie (Md.) on May 19, and he has twice been assigned to the Baltimore Orioles during his career (March 2019 and February 2020).

Jarrett was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 2017 and taken in the 28th round.

The Tides will return to Charlotte for a six-game series from Aug. 17-22.
