Zach Jarrett had two hits on Tuesday night — pushing his batting average above .300 — but the Bowie (Md.) Baysox fell in a series opener at Richmond (Va.), 6-5.

Before a crowd of 3,057, Jarrett started in left field and moved up to fifth in the batting order for Bowie (9-3), which held onto first place despite the loss.

The series continues Wednesday in Richmond, and the Baysox are a half-game up on Eric (Pa.) and Richmond in the Double-A Northeast divisional standings.

Jarrett is hitting .302 after going 2-for-5.

Bowie is a farm club of the Baltimore Orioles.

He is the son of NASCAR champion driver Dale Jarrett and in his fourth on-field pro season (there were no minor league games in 2020).
