Zach Jarrett’s struggle at the plate continued Friday night, as he went 0-for-4 in a 7-4 victory by Norfolk (Va.) over visiting Memphis in Triple-A baseball.
Jarrett — now 0-for-13 in his last four games — struck out twice, grounded into a double play and left four runners stranded as his batting average dipped to .242.
He started in centerfield and batted seven in Norfolk’s lineup.
The six-game series with Memphis continues through the weekend.
The Tides are 35-51 and in sixth place in the Triple-A East Southeast Division, 19 1/2 games back of Durham.
Jarrett has been in Triple-A since a promotion from Double-A Bowie (Md.) on May 19, and he has twice been assigned to the Baltimore Orioles during his career (March 2019 and February 2020).
He was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 2017 and taken in the 28th round after a solid college career at Charlotte. In high school, he was a multiple sports start at Hickory.
The Tides will be in Charlotte for their next series, which begins Tuesday. Games Tuesday through Friday start at 7:04 p.m., Saturday’s game will be at 1:05 p.m., and Sunday’s game will be at 5:05 p.m.
