NEWTON – Bandys High quarterback Ja’Tay Culliver won the WNNC Oldies 101.3 FM Coca-Cola Golden Helmet Award for Week 10 of the football season.
Culliver led the Trojans to a 35-23 home victory over West Lincoln last Friday night, running Bandys’ win streak in the series to 17 straight. He ran seven times for 133 yards and three touchdowns and completed two passes for 46 yards and another score.
Bandys (3-6, 1-4) plays its next game on Friday at 7:30 p.m. on the road, battling Lake Norman Charter (3-6, 0-5) in Huntersville.
The Golden Helmet Award, in its 36th year, is presented each week after area head football coaches nominate players for consideration.
