Maiden duo no-hits Lake Norman Charter in softball

Alex Reavis allowed only two hits over four innings, and Cy Spencer and Hunter Jones each drove in three runs on Tuesday afternoon, sparking Bandys High’s 11-1 baseball victory in six innings at home over Lincolnton.

The win lifted Bandys to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the South Fork 2A, keeping the Trojans a half-game out of first place behind Maiden.

Reavis walked three and struck out four and worked with a six-run lead after the Trojans scored all those runs in the third inning. They added three more in the fourth inning to lead 9-0.

Spencer went 3-for-4 with a double, drove in three runs and scored twice for Bandys while Jones walked and drove in three runs in three at-bats.

Ivan Huffman added two hits and an RBI and Charlie Stybroski had two hits, including a double, and walked twice and drove in a run for Bandys.

Elijah Hedgepeth had two singles to pace Lincolnton (1-5, 1-4), and E.J. Manjarris took the loss (three innings pitched, four hits, six runs (four earned), four strikeouts, two walks).

Bandys had 10 hits and Lincolnton had four.

The Trojans have a non-league game at St. Stephens on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Wolves are at home Friday at 7 p.m. for a conference game against West Lincoln.

Maiden 11, Lake Norman Charter 10

The Blue Devils scored in the seventh inning to escape Lake Norman Charter with a victory to stay in first place in the conference.

Lake Norman Charter (4-5, 1-4) tied it at 10 on a home run by Max Doherty and scored three runs in the inning. Doherty homered twice and drove in five runs.

Avery Scott went 3-for-4 with a double and drove in a run, Dylan Abernethy was 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored, Ross Fowler had two hits, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored and Drew Huffman walked and went 2-for-3 for the Blue Devils (5-1, 5-0).

Dalton James got a win in relief for Maiden, giving up three hits and three earned runs, and Fowler pitched one inning and gained a save. Scott worked five innings, giving up four hits and four earned runs.

The Knights’ Jared Ryan threw five innings, allowing 11 hits, striking out four and walking one.

Maiden plays at non-league game on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at undefeated South Caldwell.

Lake Norman Charter is at Newton-Conover for a conference game on Friday at 7 p.m.

North Lincoln 9, East Lincoln 3

The visiting Knights had a six-run second inning as they improved to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the South Fork 2A by winning.

North Lincoln had nine hits and the Mustangs (4-3, 3-2) had eight and were hurt by three errors.

Graham Smiley had two hits and an RBI and Allden Horne and Josh Stephens each drove in a run for East Lincoln.

Ty Cobb took the loss after going one inning. He gave up five hits, seven runs (three earned) and walked one and struck out one.

North Lincoln plays a non-conference game at Stuart Cramer on Wednesday at 7 p.m., and the Mustangs have a conference game at Bandys on Friday at 7 p.m.

West Lincoln 2, Newton-Conover 1

The Rebels won on the road, improving to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the South Fork 2A.

Newton-Conover dipped to 0-7 overall and 0-5 in the conference.

No game details were available.

West Lincoln shares third place with North Lincoln and East Lincoln.

The Rebels face Cherryville in a non-league road game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. while the Red Devils are at home at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, playing Fred T. Foard in a non-conference game.

SOFTBALL

Maiden 15, Lake Norman Charter 0

Morgan Bohemier and Addyson Ikard combined on a no-hitter as the Blue Devils won a league game at North Mecklenburg Park.

Boheimier threw three innings, walking one and striking out six, and Ikard struck out one in two innings.

Ikard went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, Rachel Cooke was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Kenley Rembert went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs.

Maiden improved to 3-1 in the South Fork 2A and is in third place behind Newton-Conover and North Lincoln.

The Blue Devils plays a conference game at home (5 p.m.) against West Lincoln on Thursday.

Lake Norman Charter, 0-5 in conference games, plays Newton-Conover on the road on Friday at 5 p.m.

Bandys 4, Lincolnton 3

Down by two runs after five innings, the host Trojans rallied to win a conference game.

Shi Pope, Bailey Burton and Ashytn Hopson each had two hits for Bandys, 2-3 in the South Fork 2A, and Burton, Sydney Kale and Riley Fox each drove in one run.

Lydia Poovey pitched three innings and was the winning pitcher for the Trojans.

Lincolnton dropped to 0-5 in conference games.

Bandys plays a non-league game on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at St. Stephens, and Lincolnton goes to Shelby on Thursday (5 p.m.) for a non-conference game.

Newton-Conover 6, West Lincoln 5

After the visiting Rebels scored a run in the top of the seventh for a 5-all tie, the Red Devils scored in the bottom of the inning for a conference victory.

Emilie Murphy went 2-for-4 and Georgia Ingle drove in three runs for Newton-Conover, 5-0 in the league, and Gracie Loftin was the winning pitcher (seven innings pitched, seven hits, four runs, three walks and 11 strikeouts).

Kinsley Gilmore went 3-for-4 for the Rebels, 2-2 in the league, and Katie Willis took the loss after pitching six innings. Willis gave up eight hits, six runs (two earned), walked one and struck out one.

Newton-Conover, which won five games last season, plays a non-league game at home on Thursday at 5 p.m. against West Iredell.

West Lincoln has a conference game on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Maiden.

North Lincoln 7, East Lincoln 4, 8 inn.

The Knights scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning en route to a road conference win.

North Lincoln, 4-1 in the South Fork 2A and in second place, had 10 hits.

Katelynn Crowe went 4-for-5 with three RBIs for East Lincoln, 3-2 in the conference, and Payton Baker took the loss. Baker threw eight innings, allowing 10 hits, seven runs (six earned) with two walks and three strikeouts.

North Lincoln has a non-conference game at Hickory on Wednesday while East Lincoln faces Bandys on the road on Friday at 6 p.m. in a league game.

GIRLS SOCCER

Lake Norman Charter 7, Maiden 0

The Knights won a conference match at home despite 19 saves by Maiden’s Marley Mingus.

No other match details were available.

Lake Norman Charter, 3-0 in league play, goes to Newton-Conover (3-0) on Thursday at 6 p.m. and the winner takes over first place in the South Fork 2A.

Maiden plays a non-league match at St. Stephens on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

BOYS GOLF

Knights, Rebels tie at Lincolnton (Tuesday)

Lake Norman Charter and West Lincoln each shot 157s to tie in a nine-hole conference match on at the Lincoln Country Club.

Lance Rowe of East Lincoln was medalist with a round of 34 as the Mustangs (165 finished) third.

Ian Johnson, Jace Arko and Will Dalton each had rounds of 39 for Lake Norman Charter while West Lincoln’s best round (37) was by Bauer Galloway.

Lake Norman Charter leads at 640 with West Lincoln next at 659 and East Lincoln in third at 682 after three conference matches.

The next league match – 18 holes at Rock Barn – is on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

Lake Norman Charter’s Johnson was medalist with a round of 78 and Will Carpenter led the Rebels with a 78.
