Bad weather on Tuesday and the threat for more of it have caused the South Fork 2A to delay the start of its basketball tournaments and re-huddle on Wednesday morning to look at playing date and game location options.

Butch Parker, the league’s executive secretary, said via email that all eight first-round tournament games – four girls, four boys – scheduled for Tuesday night are now set for Wednesday with no location or game time changes.

On Wednesday morning, league officials will begin to look at how to structure the semifinal and championship rounds, which could include moving from the scheduled site (Lincolnton) to other gyms.

Originally, two semifinals were scheduled on Wednesday night at Lincolnton, two more on Thursday night there, and the title games on Friday.

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) is scheduled to develop state playoff pairings on Saturday so all conference tournaments were expected to be completed by Friday.

As the South Fork 2A discusses its next move, it has one tie for a state playoff bid that is yet to be broken.

Bandys and Lincolnton tied for second place in girls and split regular season game. The NCHSAA has already said their third game — won by Bandys in the People’s Bank Holiday Clash — factors only into the determination of seeds for the conference tournament.

If the Trojans and Wolves win first-round games, their semifinal would break the tie. If they both are eliminated at some point in the tournament and there is available time, they must play a special playoff game unless they mutually agree to break the tie by another means.

In the boys’ race, East Lincoln and Maiden have wrapped up the No. 1 and No. 2 bids, respectively, unless a lower seed wins the tournament to move up to No. 2.

Parker said the conference will release semifinal and championship game clarifications as soon as possible on Wednesday.
