A freshman pitcher will lead Fayetteville Britt as it battles South Caldwell for the state 4A high school softball championship this weekend in Raleigh.
Carlie Myrtle, who has 19 wins this season, has already decided she will play college softball at North Carolina.
Starting Friday, she’ll be on the mound as East No. 8 seed Britt (23-5) faces West No. 2 seed South Caldwell (28-2) in a best-of-3 series. Game 1 begins at 5 p.m.
Game 2 is Saturday at 11 a.m., followed by Game 3, if needed, at 5 p.m.
