VALDESE – Being in position to teach baseball on the same fields where he learned the game has new Draughn High head coach Mason Biddix excited.
Biddix, a former Draughn three-sport athlete, was announced on Wednesday as the Wildcats’ next varsity baseball head coach via a press release from the Burke County Schools.
He replaces Yates Jensen, who guided Draughn for two seasons (7-38 record). The Wildcats went 5-19 last season, including 3-9 in the Northwestern Foothills 2A to finish in sixth place.
“I am blessed with the opportunity to come back to Draughn to help not only renew a winning culture on the field but help mold the lives of young men for their future endeavors, may it be through sports or life in general,” Biddix told HobbsDailyReport.com. “I am looking forward to getting back on campus, meeting the guys and getting to work!”
Biddix will be a non-faculty head coach while he works on receiving a master’s degree in administration from Gardner-Webb University.
He’s a 2014 graduate of Draughn and 2018 graduate of Montreat College, where he played baseball after having also played at Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC).
Biddix played baseball, basketball and football at Draughn, and he played American Legion baseball for Caldwell County Post 29 and has been Post 29’s pitching coach the last two summers.
